Grammar school finder

GL Assessment is the exam board used by most UK grammar schools for the 11+. GL tests cover Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning — the four subjects ElevenReady practice is built around.

GL is the most common 11+ board for state grammar schools. ISEB runs the computer-adaptive Common Pre-Test used mainly by independent schools. Consortium exams are shared papers run by groups of schools (for example some London girls' schools). Each school's page shows which one it uses.

FSCE — Future Stories Community Enterprise — is a newer 11+ provider whose tests are built on Key Stage 2 English and maths rather than traditional reasoning papers, often with a creative-writing task. The Trafford grammar schools (Altrincham Grammar for Boys and Girls, Sale, Stretford and Urmston) move from GL to FSCE for September 2028 entry. Paper-based tests are sat with a printed booklet and answer sheet; computer-based tests are taken on screen, often with stricter per-question pacing — so practising speed matters more. The finder lets you filter schools by test type.

It varies. Some grammar schools give priority to (or require) a home address inside a catchment area; super-selective schools usually have no catchment and admit purely on 11+ rank. Each school's page shows its catchment policy where we have verified it.
